IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING COMPETITIONS
Competition Information & Policies
Taking part in competitions is an exciting and rewarding experience. It builds confidence, resilience, discipline and team spirit.
However, competitions also require commitment, preparation and responsibility. Please read the information below carefully before registering.
Competition entry fees are set by the event organisers. Prices vary depending on the event and whether the athlete is entering Poomsae, Sparring, or both.
All entries must be:
-
Completed via the online registration form
-
Paid in full at the time of booking
We are unable to accept verbal bookings or reserve places without payment.
Your child’s place is only confirmed once full payment has been received.
-
Please only register if you are fully committed to attending.
Once payment has been made and we have submitted the entry to the competition organiser:
-
Entry fees are non-refundable
-
If a hotel has been booked, accommodation costs may also be non-refundable
-
If your child withdraws for any reason, we are still liable for organiser fees
Competition organisers do not issue refunds for withdrawals, and therefore Enigma Taekwondo cannot offer refunds once entries are submitted.
-
Age categories are determined by year of birth, not school year.
For sparring competitions, athletes must also compete within a designated weight division. Athletes are officially weighed on the day of the competition.
If an athlete does not make weight:
-
The organiser usually applies a file, often around £20.00
-
This fine is the responsibility of the parent/carer of the athlete (or athlete themselves in relation to adult competitors)
-
The athlete will then be moved into the appropriate division after payment
Please check your child’s weight carefully before selecting a division when registering.
For Poomsae events, weight divisions do not apply.
Full weight tables are provided below for reference.
Taekwondo competitions are organised by governing bodies into male and female divisions for the purpose of age and weight categories. For competition entry, we are required to register athletes under the division that aligns with the event organiser’s category structure.
We fully respect and support every athlete’s gender identity. If your child’s gender identity differs from the competition category options below, or if you would like to discuss how they wish to compete, please contact us directly and we will support you in line with governing body regulations. This information is used solely for competition registration purposes.

Physical readiness
-
Confidence & maturity
Safety and development always come first. We may advise a student to wait before entering certain events, particularly full contact sparring competitions.

-
Parents and carers are responsible for arranging transport to and from competitions.
Spectator fees are often charged by event organisers and are payable directly to them.
For competitions outside of the local area:
-
Enigma may coordinate hotel bookings for team members.
-
Hotel costs are separate from entry fees
-
If accommodation is required, this must be indicated during registration
If travel presents a difficulty, please contact us directly to discuss options (admin@enigmataekwondo.com)
-
Taekwondo competitions, particularly sparring events, involve physical contact.
Sparring competitions are full contact and carry an inherent risk of injury despite protective equipment and strict rules.
By registering, parents acknowledge:
-
That participation is voluntary
-
That competitions may involve athletes from other clubs and regions
-
That there is an element of unpredictability in open events
All competitions operate under governing body rules and safety standards.
-
When representing Enigma Taekwondo at competitions, athletes are expected to:
-
Display respect & discipline at all times
-
Follow instructor guidance
-
Support teammates
-
Represent the club positively
Competitions are about development, experience and fun as much as results!
-
